October Focus: Home-Based Beauty Clinic
When to Begin your Beauty Clinic
(Please note: This article is written for the women who live in Australia. You’ll need to apply this information to your own country and area’s patterns and trends if you are reading this from somewhere in the northern hemisphere.)
You may like to ask when to begin your new Beauty Clinic. Well, there are definitely certain times of the year that are better to commence your marketing than others, and I would never suggest commencing your business during a school holiday period. You will discover these times of the year to be so slow regarding business that you may you feel that you are to blame for there being no inquiries, when in fact at this time of the year you have very little control over the number of incoming calls and bookings.
It is my suggestion that you commence your new business just after the school holidays are over. These times would be at the end of January, after the Easter break, after the mid-year break (around the end of July) or around the beginning of October. You may start at other times, but these are the times that are very good for getting your new business off to a great start. Also, of the four holiday breaks some are better than others to begin after as well. For example, February is better than July-August to commence your new business.
If you are anxious to start your business and it happens to be school holidays then you can always begin gathering together the things you need to get started. Set up your office, design your ads and flyers, and purchase your beauty kit. Call your local newspaper and place your advertisement so that it begins to run the first week after the school holidays, and be ready to take your first few calls then. Set up your Facebook page and organise to promote it to women who have shown an interest in beauty services. Keep your phone switched on and answer any messages left as close to the time that they were left as possible.
If you want low overheads you would do well to promote your service at the Bridal Expos. Mobile Wedding Makeup and Beauty Packages is a great way to earn money, but you will need to have a reliable car in order to run your business this way. This arm of the beauty business is really an added side to the main business, because (hopefully) brides aren’t very often repeat customers. Not as a new bride they aren’t. Often they live outside your local area also, so they aren’t likely to travel to your home for their beauty services.
If you want local clients, then hit your local area with an onslaught of ads and flyers (see my article on Business Promotion Simplified) and be prepared to answer many calls. You should write yourself a script in readiness for the number of calls that you will receive and be prepared to answer you phone at all times during business hours. You will need to work out your price list in preparation for caller inquiries as well.
Once you have a group of regular clientele your business will tick along quite nicely – until you hit another holiday break. Then you will find that there will be a slight drop in the number of bookings because all of your clients will either be looking after kids who are home from school, or they will be away on holidays themselves. You should always make allowances for this when you are in the peak seasons, and put some of your earnings aside to combat these quiet times. Don’t worry though because after the break things will again pick up. Just keep doing the things you should do in order to always have a constant flow of new inquiries and bookings – remember to market your business consistently. Let’s look at setting up your new small business…….
