Setting up Your Small Business

Have the basic details in order before commencing your new small business. Getting started is easy then.

Establishing an Office from which to Run your Business

LOCATION: When you first start out in your new business it is advisable that you keep your overheads to a minimum. Therefore it is best to set up from a room at home that will be suitable for running an office.

Supplies and Equipment:

  1. Desk or table large enough to work from.
  2. Computer or other filing system for keeping records.
  3. Dedicated business phone.
  4. Stationery, envelopes, business cards and other related supplies, pens, pencils etc.
  5. Manual filing system for prospects and return service clients, eg: either a Prospect box (10cm x 15cm card size) with A-Z and monthly dividers, 10cm x 15cm cards;  OR   A computer program that has appropriate individual accounting and record keeping facilities.
  1. Printer that produces multiple copies (for those that would like to have others work for them as well) – whether to rent, lease or buy a printer is up to you, but virtually no business can get by without file copies. It may be possible to produce certain documents through your computer and printer, however when you need multiple copies a multiple-copy printer is vital. Running over to the corner store to get copies is going to cost you time and money, so be sure to fit some sort of multiple-copy printer into your business start-up costs.
